Library 2.0

It is interesting to see how much technology has changed the library today. Previously a library was just a place to come and read books, but technology attracts more people today to the library than in the past. Some people are able to just come into the library to socialize. Library 2.0 would allow people to access the library from anywhere with their personal computer.

Also here at Boatwright library Memorial Library, study groups are becoming more popular and people friendly. The accommodation of our 8:15 Coffee Shop falls right in place when students and staff are in need of a pick-me up. In addition, we have a Career development office that offers service on Wednesday evening to help students with their resumes. We have great reference librarians who help students with their research projects. One thing I would like to add is that Boatwright Memorial library is a home away from home for our community, students and staff. We are always happy when our customers are satisfied. Our Theme is "Leave Happy"

With today's technology, the computer replaces the old study tables. Below is one of our many study areas where people come in and work on different things:

Note the all the students shown below have their textbooks open for study. This is the way we used to do it:

Technorati

This exercise was very easy. However, I had to take time and follow the steps in order to complete the technorati claim correctly. But when it comes to the widget, MAN! it is hard. I couldn't figure out what to do. I have tried to add in my favorite blogs, I wasn't successful. Someone, please help! As you see below, I have managed a widget but for the life of me I cannot enter anything into it.

Rollyo

I had a hard time getting this rollyo to work. Anyway, I went through the list trying one by one and, finally, I hope this works. I set my rollyo search to specific reference sources, but you can customize your rollyo searches with many more options. All you have to do is click on the list and choose for yourself!!! :)

When my friends ask me how my summer has been, I proudly inform them about our TechLearning 2008 program. I share with them the "23 Things I have Learned," and all the latest technology I have discovered, expanded and applied during this learning. Blogging has been a learning experience and at the same time has expanded knowledge of new and emerging Web 2.0 tools.

Some of My Favorite Books

As I look back over the years there is a wealth of stories that I would love to share with my friends. I can tell you it has been a great experience working in a library. I will start off with the story of my first time shelving. I took a cart full of books to shelve on Basement level 2. I thought it would take me thirty minutes to shelve that truck. It took me two hours. When I got there, while I was shelving, I was also looking at the books and began reading them. By the time I finished shelving, I had half a cart of books I wanted to check out. Since then, reading has become one of my hobbies. When I read I feel as if I am visiting these places that I read about. The next time I went to shelve, I promised myself not to browse through the books while shelving, though it was hard not to. I will catalog some of my favorites books

Online Image Generator

After playing with all the different online images generator I decided to use this it might be for kids but I thought it was cute. Enjoy the quiz

Week 5 Play Week

This has certainly been a play week. Learning isn't so much a new task in the schema of human experiences as it is the recognition of what we have been doing all along and are now striving to do better. When I started blogging I thought it was too hard, but since then I've found it fun and refreshing.

New Development

After doing all my research I decided to purchase a MacBook Pro. It's true they are expensive machines however, I am benefiting from the all the functions they provide. I love this machine. I will share some of the things I have discovered. Here we go: Macs are very user-friendly due to the interconnectedness of their applications, and simple to understand user interface. The main draw to using a Mac is that every program used on the Mac is made to work seamlessly with the rest of the programs and the operating system itself. Unlike a Windows machine the hardware of a Mac is built for the operating system, so there are rarely any bugs or problems between the software and hardware. This allows a much more pleasant user experience and allows for increased productivity of the user, because the applications are optimized for both the software and hardware of the computer. Another important part of the Mac operating system is the large amount of freeware applications available for it that you cannot get on Windows. Macs are also bundled with a very useful suite of applications called iLife. iLife contains media applications made for the Mac OS such as iTunes, iMovie, and iWeb. iLife applications are very simple to use and can even allow a new user to produce videos and websites with no prior experience.

Interesting Technology

The main thing that is technology related that has interested me has been Skype. Skype has done wonders for my relationships, and it is the most excellent technology. I would recommend it if you want to save money, time and stay connected with family and friends. I can send photos, text messages, and instant messages.

Since I started using Skype, I have learned of its multiple functions. It’s cheaper than any telephone company when using a landline phone or cell phone. Get this - it’s free when using computer to computer. It gets even better if you have a webcam, when you can even see the person on the other end. How cool is it that I get to see my mom who is 6000 miles away at least once a day!? With Skype you can be connected anywhere in the world, as long as you have internet and a computer. This is my favorite technology, which I wanted to share with you!

Click here to learn more about Skype you will be surprised what Skype can do for you. Check it out!
